Introduction
The racket has a round shape, high balance, and a sweet spot located in the center of the impact surface. The core is made of X-Eva that consists of three different layers. The two outer layers have a higher density to provide power in harder shots. The inner layer is softer to add comfort and add a margin of error in softer shots.
It has a surface made of 3K carbon fiber, making the Viper Counter the less hard racket of the three new Vipers. Babolat has implemented a 3D Spin+ technology which means that the surface has both a sandpaper-like finish and an embossed pattern on the surface.
The new Vibrasorb system reduces vibrations and increases comfort, reducing the risk of injuries. Like previous models, the Viper Air uses HPS-technology. The placement of the drilled holes is adjusted according to the racket shape to provide a better grip.
First impression
The Viper Counter has a different shape, round with some edges. Babolat developed a round racket for the more attacking-oriented player, which is about time. There are few options for players that prefer round rackets but don’t want to sacrifice to much power.
We like the matte finish and the color combination is ok, even though we prefer the design of Viper Air and Viper Technical.
A great feature is the longer grip, perfect for players using two-handed backhands. Our test racket weighs about 362 grams with two overgrips and the balance measured 270 mm.

Just like Viper Air and Viper Technical, the Viper Counter is a racket for the technical player with some padel experience. It’s not as easy to maneuver as many other round rackets due to its high balance.
It delivers good results in the defensive. The new core in combination with the 3K surface which is a little bit softer helps generate speed in softer shots. It’s not the most forgiving racket, but we have no issues with precision in lobs and placements from the back of the court. The higher balance helps to generate power in counter-attacks.

It provides decent power in volleys and bandejas with a nice, distinct feel. In the more aggressive over-head shots like smashes, it provides decent power but can’t compete with the purely attacking-oriented rackets out there.

Overall, the Viper Counter is a new and interesting concept from Babolat. It doesn’t shine in either attack or defense but delivers a positive result in all parts of the game. For the all-round-player with some previous experience of padel, it’s worth trying.
