Introduction

Varlion started in Argentina in 1993 and manufactured its first padel racket in 1995, designed by founder Felix Regalia. Between 1999 and 2001, Varlion moved the factory from Argentina to Spain, raising the level of the technologies used. Varlion developed its first 3D mold and became one of the first manufacturers to manufacture a completely symmetrical padel racket.

Varlion LW Carbon Difusor Black 2.0 2021 is a round racket with low to medium balance. The frame is made of carbon fiber and the impact surface combines carbon fiber with fiberglass. The core consists of Hypersoft EVA.

Hexagon frame improves stability. A hexagon pattern in the hitting surface together with Gradual Holes improves the effect when hitting the ball. On top of the racket is an integrated frame guard that weighs 10 g.

First impression

It’s a nice-looking racket with a matte black base and elements of petrol green and orange. The Varlion logo that goes across the face is glossy, which creates a nice contrast. The finish is of high quality and the quality feel is good.

At the top of the racket is an integrated frame guard of rubber. Our test racket weighs about 366 grams with one overgrip and we measured the balance to 260 mm. The length of the grip is 12 cm.

Varlion LW Carbon Difusor Black 2.0 2021 in the defense

The racket is highly maneuverable, it feels light in the swing. The feel on contact is firm but comfortable as the racket absorbs vibrations well.

LW Carbon Difusor Black 2.0 has control as a primary feature, and it does shine in defense. The playability is there and it’s easy to get in the right positions. The response from the core is great and so is the control. The racket is easy to play from the back of the court, giving us a sense of security. The sweet spot is located in the middle of the racket head and is large, which reduces the amount of errors.

At the net, it’s still the playability that stands out. It’s effective at fast volleys and offers control. The structured surface helps to generate spin at contact. In the overhead shots, the racket moves nicely in the air when executing for example bandejas.

The racket impresses most from the back of the court but also delivers good results in the attack. Although the racket is easy to swing, it offers good stability and weight in smashes.

Overall impression

After a few matches, we noticed that the integrated frame protection loosened at the edge. We do not know if it’s just our particular copy or if Varlion has that problem in general.
