Introduction

The racket has a diamond shape, high balance, and a sweet spot located in the upper part of the impact surface. The core is made of X-Eva that consists of three different layers. The two outer layers have a higher density to provide power in harder shots. The inner layer is softer to add comfort and add a margin of error in softer shots.

It has a surface made of 12K carbon fiber, making the second hardest of the three new Vipers. Babolat has implemented a 3D Spin+ technology which means that the surface has both a sandpaper-like finish and an embossed pattern on the surface.

The new Vibrasorb system reduces vibrations and increases comfort, reducing the risk of injuries. Like previous models, the Viper Air uses HPS-technology. The placement of the drilled holes is adjusted according to the racket shape to provide a better grip.

First impression

The shape of Viper Technical is similar to the regular Viper Carbon. The design is bold, we like the color combination and the matte finish. Another great feature is the longer grip, perfect for players using two-handed backhands.

Our test racket weighs about 374 grams with two overgrips and the balance measured 270 mm.

Babolat Viper Technical 2021 in the defense

Viper Technical is the least innovative of the new Vipers. The shape and feel are the same as in many other power-rackets. It isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as it’s a well-proven and popular concept. You know what to expect.

As expected, the defensive game is a challenge with the Viper Technical due to the high balance and smaller sweet spot. Clean hits are rewarded with a great feel and sound. It gives us confidence in counter-attack situations and the overall impression in the defense is positive.

Babolat Viper Technical 2021 in the attack

At the net is where the Viper Technical shines. The new core together with the hard 12K carbon fiber surface makes it very responsive when hitting harder. It’s a joy to play volleys and bandejas and even more fun to fire of smashes. It’s a great weapon for players looking for winners.

Babolat Viper Technical 2021 playability & comfort

The playability is below average, we recommend it only for experienced intermediate and advanced level players.

It’s a hard racket that offers a below-average comfort level. Not recommended for injury-prone players.

Overall impression

The Viper Technical doesn’t offer any surprises, delivering what is expected from this type of racket. It’s all about explosivity and power. It’s not a racket for the beginner player, as it requires accurate hits to deliver positive results.

A great looking design in a familiar shape. Challenging in the defensive game, but rewards the experienced padel player with a lot of power. Overall it has been a positive experience to play with the Viper Technical and we think it’s worth checking out if it suits your playing style.
